Challenger’s Rules and Guidelines

1. Pokémon (General Rules apply)

  1. The Challenger can only have one party of 6 Pokémon throughout the whole challenge. The party will be registered and recorded in the Challenger’s trainer card.

  2. The party will be checked by appointed/selected NCE staff. Pokémon with an unverifiable set of moves and stats are not allowed (otherwise known as “Hacked” Pokémon.)

2. The Gym Challenge

    1. The goal for the challengers is to get all 8 gym badges first. The challenger who obtains all 8 badges first and presents them to the NCE staff will be awarded the winner of the Gym Challenge.

    2. Challenging the leaders will be “first come, first served” basis. The first 8 challengers to register will be given priority to challenge any gym leader they please. Once all 8 have queued, the next 8 will go and so on.

    3. The challenger will be given their trainer card where their party Pokémon will be recorded and a set of 6 stickers.

    4. The battle style would depend on the gym leader: Single, Double, or Multi.

d.1 Singles

– both challenger and the gym leader will have a party of 6 but will only use 3, one at a time.

d.2 Doubles

– both challenger and the gym leader will have a party 6 but will only use 4, two at a time.

d.3 Multi

– both challenger and the gym leader will team up with another player, the gym leader with another gym leader. Each player will have a party of 6 but will only use 2, one at a time.

– this will count as a double badge win when both challengers are successful. And a loss for each unsuccessful challenger.

    1. Reserving a challenge with a gym leader requires the challenger to place their trainer card in queue at the gym leader’s desk. While waiting, the challenger has the freedom to switch queues to other gym leaders as they see fit. Available gym leaders will have a flag raised to show they are open for a challenge.

    2. When the challenger is successful, they obtain a sticker badge from the gym leader. The challenger then proceeds to another gym leader and try to obtain that gym leaders badge until the challenger collects all 8. The sticker badge will be placed on the challenger’s trainer card.

    3. In case of a loss or unsuccessful gym challenge, the unsuccessful challenger gives a sticker to the gym leader. The challenger only has 4 stickers. Unsuccessful challengers will then be placed at the bottom of that queue, or they may challenge another gym leader instead, provided they still have challenger stickers. When the challenger gives away their last sticker, they are eliminated from the challenge.

    4. The challenge will run for 4 hours, 1pm to 5pm. In the event that no challenger is successful by the end period, one of the gym leaders will be declared the winner (details on the gym leader’s rules and guidelines). Gym challenges are accepted from 1:00pm to 4:59pm. No challenges will be accepted from 5:00pm onwards.

3. The Gym Leader

  1. There will be a total of 8 Gym Leaders in the challenge.

  2. The gym leader’s team will be of a monotype with an exception of an optional “wildcard”. Meaning, their team may consist of 5 Pokémon sharing 1 type, and 1 that has a completely different type.

  3. The gym leader’s battle format will be posted on the gym leader’s trainer card along with their registered party Pokémon (details on battle formats are on section 2.d). The gym leader’s trainer card will be shown to the current challenger only.

  4. Gym Leader types will only be revealed at the start of the event and to the current challengers only. Gym leader types will not be displayed.

  5. A challenger can only win once against a gym leader. Once successful, the challenger will have no further business with that leader.

Gym Leader’s Rules and Guidelines

1. Pokémon (General Rules apply)

  1. The gym leader can only have one party of 6 Pokémon throughout the whole challenge. The party will be registered and will be recorded in the gym leader’s trainer card.

  2. The party will be checked by appointed/selected NCE staff. Pokémon with an unverifiable set of moves and stats are not allowed (otherwise known as “Hacked” Pokémon.)

  3. The gym leader’s party Pokémon will consist of Pokémon of the same type, with one OPTIONAL wildcard. The wildcard can be a Pokémon of any type other than the gym leader’s main type.

  4. A Pokémon that switches type when mega evolved will be counted based on the Pokémon’s unevolved type. For example, a dragon type gym leader’s Sceptile will not be counted as a dragon type and therefore will be counted as the gym leader’s wildcard instead.

2. The Challenge

  1. All gym leaders are to be on their desks before 1:00pm.

  2. Challenging the leaders will be “first come, first served” basis. The first 8 challengers to register will be given priority to challenge any gym leader they please. Once all 8 have

queued, the next 8 will go and so on.

  1. There is no specific order as to how the challenge would proceed. Challengers can choose

which gym leaders they wish to challenge. In light of this, no gym leader should coax a

challenger to challenge him or her. The decision should be from the challengers.

  1. Each gym leader will have a trainer card with their registered party Pokémon written on it.

The trainer card must only be shown to the current challenger.

  1. Each gym leader will be given a definite set of badge stickers to be given to successful challengers. Along with the stickers will be a blank sheet to collect stickers from unsuccessful challengers.

  2. The challenge will run from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Challenges will be accepted from 1:00pm to 4:59pm. No challenges will be accepted from 5:00pm onwards.

  3. The battle style would depend on the gym leader: Single, Double, or Multi.

f.1 Singles

    • both you and the challenger will have a party of 6 but will only use 3, one at a time.

f.2 Doubles

    • both you and the challenger will have a party 6 but will only use 4, two at a time.

f.3 Multi

    • both you and challenger will team up with another player, with you, the gym leader, with another gym leader. Each player will have a party of 6 but will only use 2, one at a time.

    • this will count as a double badge win when both challengers are successful. And a loss for each unsuccessful challenger. But for the gym leaders, one successful battle will be counted as 1 win. However, for every 2 wins, both leaders will have 1 more win added to their score. The leaders involved in a multi battle will be counted as one and in the event that these leaders win, the two of them will settle the prize in a VGC style battle (with smogon clauses and banned Pokémon rules in effect) or per discretion of the leaders.

  1. Free gym leaders will have their flags raised to show that they are open for a challenge.

  2. The challenger who gets all eight badges first within the challenge period will be declared the winner. However, in the event that there will be no successful challengers by 5:00pm (either no challenger has completed all 8 badges or in the event that all challengers have been eliminated), the gym leader with the most stickers collected from unsuccessful challengers will be declared the winner of the Challenge.

g.1 in case of a tie between the gym leaders, the winner will be decided through a double battle using the challenger’s rules. This means that a gym leader can use whatever party he or she wishes as long as it goes within the guidelines.
